OK, I think I've got more than enough ideas for Asuka's musical tastes, thank you all.

Now I wanna talk about alcohol. I've said above that the characters are supposed to be more like 20 y.o.. I haven't locked it down to 20 yet (could make it 21), but Asuka seems like the kind of girl who wouldn't let a few months and prudish American laws get in the way. Is acceptable to have her knocking back a cold one now and then?

Living with Misato, there's quite a strong likelihood that Asuka will follow on the drinky path, though more likely to only get drunky when she's feeling funky.

More like there is a good chance that Asuka would tailor her "adult" persona after Misato, probably becoming something of a clone like her in regards to drinking, teasing, and general way of behaving.

This doesn't mean Asuka should be a Misato-clone, but rather she can behave like Misato in certain aspects; the key would be to use the "Misato" persona when in the privacy of her home, and to the outside world/school, be more like Lt. Col. Katsuragi; collected and focused on getting the job done.

A couple of explanations; Nugget is a term for new pilot. Pilot speak for newbie. It's her way of teasing Shinji.

Also, for those expecting to see those backpack-type things on their backs. In my doujin those are parachutes, and not worn until you're about to go.

I like the idea of them looking more asian with slanted eyes than the normal japanese "bambi"-like eyes; but they seem a little dim with that very small iris, in my opinion.
Other than that, I think the art's great.

Thank you! I'll try tinkering with the eyes. Try mixing pupil with iris. My problem is with these thinner asian eyes, I don't have much room to work with. Anyway, I'll give it a try. If I have to change, it's not too big a problem to redo eyes at this point.

This is just a first try, but I honestly don't like it as much. I think there's something sexy about black.

There's also the possibility of switching from black for more distant shots to detailed eyes for close face shots where detail is important.

Another thing I'll say- THANKS AGAIN to the anons who steered me onto photoshop. Shading plugsuits looks better and is a hell of alot easier!

Most subs are vastly superior to dubs, but I can think of three where the official English dub is at least as good as the original.

Most dubs sound like they were done by the importer in his mom's basement with a shoebox tape recorder, reciting all the lines himself, using a Babelfish translation of the script. When the importer has some actual resources, and cares enough to hire good voice actors, you can (sometimes) get some really great results.

At first I disliked Black Lagoon's dubs because Revy sounded like a cranky grandmother.

Guess I got used to it.

I felt Tiffany Grant over-emphasized Asuka's bratiness, all noise and no nuance. The original Japanese seiyu managed to convey the mischief, arrogance, insecurity, vanity, cuteness and vulnerability.

Cowboy Bebop's English dub is superior IMHO. And Wendee Lee nails Faye Valentine totally, she's pure perfection. We'd all like to nail Faye but Wendee has actually done it.
Mary Elizabeth McGlynn is also full of win, too.

If we are on a tangent about dubs: Funi's FMA dub was also pretty decent.

Also, IMHO, the Bebop dub was better than the original.

ADV's Eva dub sucks balls.

I think the places ADV's dub failed hardest and fastest were the voices of Asuka, Misato, and Gendo.
Both Misato and Gendo managed to sound like self-important 15-year-olds, which, while perhaps relevant to their behavior, still sounds like shit.

Shinji's dub voice alone makes the ADV dub unwatchable for me.

Spike Spencer is just so fucking annoying.

Spike Spencer is SUPPOSED to be annoying. Because most of the characters he plays are annoying. The same is true with Tiffany Grant. Then again, ADV founder Matt Greenfield must find that attractive.

Anyway, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Fullmetal Alchemist, Inuyasha and Gundam Wing were some of the better dubs.

I'm almost tempted to agree with your assertion that Gundam Wing had a good dub, but I fear that might just be my nostalgia talking. Toonami made EVERYTHING better.
G Gundam was pretty damned good, if only in its success in capturing the ridiculousness of the source material.
